Trenching

Trenching is an exploration method whereby top soil and other overburden material is removed to expose a surface of bedrock. This allows for geologists to observe the rock types, any faulting and folding, alteration patterns and to sample the mineralization. Once a trench has been mapped and sampled it is filled in again as part of ongoing reclamation work.

Over the last six field seasons, Goldcliff has excavated and sampled 6198.8 metres in 196 trenches. Trenching has proved to be an effective method of spotting drill holes.
